Loïc Vuillemin
Freediving Zen monk Kosho
Loïc Vuillemin (CH) from his birth name became the monk Kosho in 1997. Since then, intensive practice and spirit of service made him the dedicated person he is today. Certified Zen Master inside Deshimaru-Kosen lineage in 2013, he became, with the guidance of late Steven Keenan, an Aida freedive instructor in early 2017. Guardian of Yujonyusanji temple during almost 10 years, Kosho has lately decided to walk again in the social world, acting as an authentic monk, freedive instructor and competition athlete.
At present time, Loïc already registered 14 national records for Switzerland in the disciplines of CWT, CWTb & FIM with dives below 85m deep. Part of the top 10 freedivers in overall disciplines, he ranked 1rst in 2020. A strong, safe, skilled and charismatic freediver.
For Loïc, the practice of Zen meditation and freediving is the key of a deeper understanding... beyond even self.
The monk Kosho is also a loving husband and a caring father.

The practice of Freediving triggers a deep improvement of your awareness: not only of what is happening to your body during the dive but also of how your mind handles it all. With practice, a fearless, centered and more focused version of yourself will appear.
The process of reaching depth through freediving is intense, fast and life changing. But no need to push performances, depths are first a matter of harmony and self control.
You want to experience Freediving the Zen way? You are the exact place for that and I look forward to assist you in your way to depths. AIDA, PADI and EFR freediving courses for newbies, beginners and advanced.
Zen meditation, zazen, is based on posture, breath and state of mind. The posture is meant to be practiced sitting on a round cushion called zafu. Zazen is practised in silence. The breath, charged of awareness, is carefully left to its own. The state of mind is free, without any grasp over illusions and thoughts. It's not this easy, it's not this difficult... it's just very simple discipline.During zazen, essence of zen practice, the body and mind unite in one and only awareness... the self is abandoned, freed from judgment and open to observe the process of going beyond. Thus, practitioners are liberated from their self set limits and experience a deeper form of consciousness, more authentic. Certainly the very best thing a human being can practice. Don't hesitate to contact me if you want to learn how to practice zen meditation the right way. Online Sessions to learn and practice zen meditation are available on Deep Zen website.

FREEDIVING IN SHARM EL SHEIKH
Sharm el Sheikh is a very young city that got builded very fast... maybe to fast. Dedicated mostly to all inclusive holidays into luxuous resorts, Sharm el Sheikh is a great place to learn freediving. The coral reefs are beautiful and preserved, the sea is warm and the visibility is generally over 20m. Added to that, the hotels in Sharm el Shaikh are very good, feature swimming pools and sometimes sea access... the best way to relax in between sessions. Freediving and leisure, a taste you can't miss in Sharm el Sheikh.
When you want to go freediving in Sharm el Sheikh you may have to go through a resort or a restaurant in order to get to the sea. Wild access are rare and often far from active center. It costs a few egyptians pounds in exchange of which you'll be able to enjoy all facilities and equipments... sunbeds, showers, cafe, snacks or restaurant. It's convenient and easy, why would we argue? This way, reefs are also watched and preserved.
Once based in Sharm el Sheikh, there are various dive sites to freedive, simply snorkel and discover the beauties of Aqaba gulf. Freediving in dive sites such as Ras Mohamed or Tyran Island will definitely leave you great souvenirs. In these places, it is often that dolphins, rays and whale sharks can be seen... if amazing corals and colorful fishes are not enough for you.
Sharm el Sheikh features hospitals, visa and governmental offices, many resorts and restaurants, casinos, gigantic aquaparks, Olympic swimming pool, ice skating palace, big shopping malls and open markets, official telecoms shops, an hyperbaric chamber and more... such as an international airport.
In any ways, we are here to assist you and make in sort of your stay will be the greatest ever...

FREEDIVING IN DAHAB
Dahab is a little town that has some taste of a hippie beach village. Less cars, less roads and much more adepts of fun sports. In Dahab you can obviously freedive but also kitesurf, windsurf, hike, horse ride, climb and bike around... welcome to bedouin land where nothing is the same than elsewhere. It is a great place to start excursions into the sinai desert and Moses Mount of Sainte Catherine.
Many argue that Dahab is the Mecca of Freediving. It's true that the ratio of freedivers per people living there is quite high. The reason why? The famous Blue Hole of Dahab and the quiet and easy waters of lighthouse sea shore. What is sad is that not much is done to preserve the reef and sanity of the environment.
Located 20 min car ride away from Dahab town, Dahab Blue Hole is a perfect spot for deep freediving. Simply said, it's a hole in the coral reef. No currents, 92m deep maximum just few meters away from shore and great restaurants to rest before and after your session. Lighthouse is the town spot. People go there to swim and learn their beginner underwater skills in scuba and freediving. It features reasonnables depth at reasonnable distance from shore.
Dahab is a nice place, really... eventually the bedouin lifestyle, the heat, the dust and the constant wind are a little tiring but the place is really great... everybody likes it. Restaurants are nice, cheap and quality (not all of them be careful) and many activities can be practiced.
Travelling in Sinai
We are often asked if travelling is Sinai is safe and i must admit that this question always makes me laugh, mostly when it's asked by European or American people.
Sinai is safe and quiet, people are friendly and helpful... as long as you don't behave like a jerk. Bargaining prices is normal and if you don't you may pay something twice its price. But sincerely, there are no terrorism here. The presence of police and army is unbridgeable and all roads are full of checkpoints. Added to that, Sharm el Sheikh is now surrounded by a wall and no one can enter without reason.
The situation in North Sinai is different and tourists are not allowed to go there without specific reasons. Roads are not numerous and if you wish to go out of the tracks, you may want to hire a knowledgeable bedouin guide.
Sincerely, it's very safe. Egyptian government cares about tourists and the amount of safety checks are so abundant that it can become overwhelming... It is a muslim country so you must know that girls walking around in bikinis are not a tradition, you may get whistled sometimes. In Dahab, be careful with your belongings, it's not as safe as Sharm el Sheikh.
