What Is the AIDA4 Course About?
AIDA4 is the fourth level in the AIDA freediving education system and is designed for divers who want to become expert freedivers and assistant instructors. The course develops advanced freediving skills, deeper theory knowledge, stronger rescue ability and the capacity to support freediving instruction in a professional environment.
At this level, the training becomes more demanding and should become exact and well structured. You'll work on deeper dives, better control of yourself, freediving setup, students and trainees. You'll develop also stronger awareness and the ability to manage your own performance while also understanding how to support others safely.
Note that AIDA3 certification or equivalent are required before enrolling in AIDA4.

Course Format: 4 or 5 Days
Kosho Loïc Vuillemin, your instructor for this course, offers flexibility so the training can fit your schedule and your energy level. Depending on availability and mutual convenience, the course can usually be completed in 5 to 6 days, with the possibility to split sessions more broadly if needed.
Typical Course Flow
Day 1: Theory session, shallow water session.
Day 2: Theory session, stretching and breathwork session, open water session, open water session.
Day 3: stretching and breathwork session, open water session, open water session.
A day off will eventually be welcome for that day, up to you
Day 4: stretching and breathwork session, open water session, open water session.
Day 5: stretching and breathwork exam, open water session, theory session, exam.
This structure allows enough time to train the skills properly while leaving space for adaptation, recovery, and integration of the more advanced material.
The AIDA4 freediving course includes multiple theory and practice sessions:
Theory and Foundations
We will cover the key concepts of expert freediving theory, including depth and pressure, lung volumes and failure depths, mouthfill equalisation, recovery and surface intervals, warm up principles, drills of exercices such as FRC diving, management of open water setup and stretching sessions with students, nutrition and daily maintenance, performances approaches, safety and rescue and training concepts among various other subjects.
Breathwork and Dry Practice
You will practice stretching and breathwork routines to prepare for apnea and perform breathold exercises on land, building the mental and physical tools you need for the open water training. You are also expected to lead a stretching and breathing exercices session of about 25 minutes for beginner freedivers.
Safety, Rescue and Equipment
We will cover safety fundamentals and rescue procedures, discuss the role of buddies, deepen your self-awareness of limits and potential, observe the freediving code of conduct, care for our equipment and go through the practical skills an expert freediver needs to keep in mind before entering the open water sea. AIDA4 is a tough level and we can only encourage you to be consistent with your training before your course. In order to get the AIDA4 Expert Freediver certification, you are expected to be certified for first and secondary care.
Open Water Training
Most of the course happens in the open sea. Under the close supervision of Kosho Loïc Vuillemin, you will practice freediving in open water, refine your equalization, improve your style, practice freefall, mouthfill and FRC dives. You will also work on your awareness and selfcontrol both underwater and on the surface and assist the instructor with safety dives and overall setup management. The AIDA4 Freediver course features usually 8 open water sessions.

You’ll receive an official AIDA4 certification for having completed the following requirements :
Overall expectations :
⭐ Understand freediving as a disciplined, collective, structured and high-awareness sport.
⭐ Improve your ability to plan and execute advanced freediving sessions.
⭐ Develop stronger control in depth, equalization and breathing management.
⭐ Practice safe freediving at a much higher technical level.
⭐ Learn how to assist freediving instructors in a course environment.
⭐ Show respect for buddies, the marine environment and the freediver code of conduct.
Technical requirements :
✅ Lead a full body stretching session for a group of beginner freedivers
✅ Static apnea of at least 3 minutes 30 seconds.
✅ Rescue and buddying skills in static.
✅ Dynamic apnea of at least 70 meters.
✅ Constant weight bi-fins dive to a minimum of 32 meters with correct technique.
✅ Demonstrate free-fall, mouthfill equalization, advanced safety awareness and expert rescue skills.
✅ Perform depth rescue and tow an unconscious freediver on the surface as required by the standard. Multiple rescue and self rescue drills.
✅ Pass the written theory exam and show solid understanding of key freediving concepts.

Are there prerequisites to enroll?
You are welcome to join if you meet the basic requirements for safe participation:
